point being that botting or bot-like grinding is stupid and maxing out by doing it is not a measure of how grindy the game is or is not. thus getting max level in the way they did was a stupid thing to point out in response to a comparison of grind in two games.
|
And it's a flaw in Aion because...? I think people powerlevel in every game. Even in Guild Wars.
Quote:
you follow?
1. you have no idea how much i have played.
2. if you are not max level and have not played the endgame yet you are not qualified to defend the game. see? i can make arbitrary decisions of what is and is not enough to judge a new mmo just as well as you can buddy.
|
1. Well no, you didn't say anything about it.
2. You still have to see what endgame is like before condemning the game. I didn't say anything about max level.
For instance, in WAR you actually need only about 20-25 level before saying that endgame sucks. Because at level 20 you being going to Tor Anroc, and that's basically it till 30. Sometimes fortress, but to do that you don't need to be max level...
In Aion, the best part of PvP starts at 25 and Abyss, something most of the people will try out for the first time this weekend.

That's why I don't understand why people try to prove that it sucks so badly. For instance, comparing graphics to those from 1999... That's a really good argument, no?

Oh, pardon me. Here we go, I have now ceased being lazy and shall henceforth post in a most elegant and graceful manner. I must question how you will overcome your own hurdles with the language, though. Perhaps with another "not an native speaker" excuse?

I said nothing of the ability to power level being a flaw in the design of the game currently being discussed. Please learn to comprehend what you read. I will not go out of my way to explain this further. Go to college, if that is what you need to do in order to understand the meanings of the words which I am typing.

Indeed, I did not! So perhaps you should stop making baseless assumptions in your fervent rush to defend your newest game obsession.

No, I do not. Just as you do not need to see what endgame is like to defend it. You have experienced very little of what Aion is going to offer, and therefore should not be defending it as furiously as you have been.
My arbitrary standards of what is enough to know the facts are just as good as yours.

Perhaps you should consider that we live in the present, not ten years ago, and thus modern releases should make use of various technological developments so that they look less like the rump of an Equus caballus.
In closing, I find your gallant attempts to defend this new Korean game quite amusing, and look forward to further displays of your misplaced chivalry.

Eh, again I've found myself debating with a brick wall.
I think I'll just ignore you before an overzealous mod again punishes me for trying to debate.
...where is the "Ignore" option in Guru, again?

I've got to say I'm really torn here, however the deciding factor is my computer, which struggles with Aion atm. I'm looking at upgrading, and if I do I'd say theres some Aion in my future.

I've been there since May.
Mr. G - Aion runs great on my 2-year old PC. And two years ago it was already pretty meh.
Just to show something - it runs Assassin's Creed on about Medium, High Medium. If you can run AC at Low Medium/Medium, you can run Aion.

Oh, I don't have any Sorcerers, but based on the Mage spell Restraint I, immobilizations break after the first direct hit. It means that the second you hit something Immobilized, it ends. But if you cast a DoT first, then Immobilize, it won't break for the full duration. Still, most of the DoT's are too weak to kill in one use. Or even two. They are to weaken you and if cast instantly, allow you to kite/attack without much problems.
About Sleep - from what I've seen, it doesn't break immediately, but it greatly increases defense.
There is quite a lot of CC, mainly when you think about it it's Crush, OpenAerial, Aerial Lockdown states and generally about making flying people not fall asleep in front of the keyboard. It's not like you are knocked out of the air and you die, it's temporary, but it's enough to make you pay attention.
Anything else? Don't worry, CC is still much more useful in PvE than PvP.

Well that's a plus.
It's mainly out of concern based on what's happening in WAR right now with all of the CC+AoE, and why Order bombsquads are dominating the battlefield right now.
If Aion is *anything* like that then I'm staying 3 million feet away from it at all times. But hopefully it sounds like that won't be the case.
That's about it for now.

That's the main reason I'm so eager to play Aion.
I played WAR since early Open Beta till 2 months after release, and every battle was:
1. Everyone balls up.
2. Everyone uses CC like there's no tomorrow.
3. Engineers and Maguses jump off a ledge, using the insta-cast pulling skill of theirs.
4. After one of the patches and nerfing of that skill, Bright Wizards and Sorcerers blast everyone to pieces.
5. Melee and tanks die, other ranged characters die 10 seconds later, then healers.
The main reason I've felt like WAR is not going to get better, ever. And those words are from an Engineer. Maybe I was also pissed off at them making us and Maguses the weakest characters...
Aww man, I miss my Squig Herder. At least now I'll have a Spiritmaster with very similar mechanics...

Few phases for each PQ, each rewards you if you helped the team win (although you don't need to be in a team - everyone, even outside of the team can join you) and you CAN'T afk it. Okay, you can, but you barely get influence points or exp, if at all.
I have yet to see PvP, but PvE quests are not all *kill 10 monsters and bla bla bla*. I have yet to see those 10 monsters, like in WoW or GW. Quests here are fun, like "Go find a dwarf, beat him half to death, put in a barrel and push from a giant dam". Or "catapult yourself to that dam and talk with XXX''. Or, in one of the PQ's (I'm playing as WAAAGH! Black Orc), players must fetch 20 barrels of beer for a giant, as he got thirsty after first battle.
But I only hate one thing - sometimes there is a bug, where dead enemies show up as alive - you can attack them, but you get message "Target is dead" and basically... it's annoying. Oh, and that at first interface might be a little confusing, like why inventory is under P (same as character), instead of I. And auto-run assigned to 4th mouse button... Dunno where with a normal mouse, though.
Luckily I don't have THAT good PC, but it doesn't lag. May be just a little more PC-demanding than GW:EN.
Now if you excuse me, I have to gather de Boyz fur sum serius STOMPING. WAAAGH!!

WAR flopped; Abedeus falling in love with the game and getting really excited about it didn't make the game worth playing or paying for as far as most of the rest of the world was concerned. Even his opinion has drastically changed now that he has actually played the retail version of the game and not just the beta.
So, don't be too quick to follow in his gaming footsteps. Try the Aion Open Beta, but don't get your hopes up based on what this guy says about the game.

Yeah, but WAR failed two months after release.
Aion is still strong in Asia, and getting more subscribers.
One million of people beside me got fooled by the Open Beta ;p
You don't need to take my word, but you CAN try Chinese servers, if you can bear with lags and no patches till August/September.
Also, WAR's beta covered very little of PvP (the main point of game) and we all hoped for balance fixes. There were none after 2 months. Hey, even people from Closed Beta knew about those balance issues.
Still, here's more info about Aion if you want to know anything: http://www.aionsource.com/
Btw, I see from that quote that I really thought PQ's were good, right? Well, they put all the best ones in the beginning of the game. Later it's just killing mobs over and over for influence.

Uhm. No, I didn't think AoC was awesome.
I played the trial and I thought it was boring as hell. I didn't even get to level 10.
But, you know... ghost towns aren't really cool.

Read the rest of this quote.
"THEN FIRST PEOPLE TO REACH LEVEL 21 NOTICED IT'S BAD"
Game had a misleading Beta.
Aion hasn't been in Korean or Chinese beta for a long time. It has been released long time ago, and only EU/US are late as usually.
Also, I never said I played AoC when it was released. To be honest, I managed to bother to download the trial about month and a half ago.
Why are you so desperate to prove "Abedeus is a hypocrite"? Everyone can be mistaken once in a while, doesn't mean we should stalk other people, waiting for them to trip and laugh about it.

It's also largely highlighting the one thing that's killed every MMO over here: over-hyping.
First impressions are indeed always awesome. It's a new game, it looks fun, "it does things differently", etc.
But then it's released. A few months after that, after a slew of opening sales, people just lose interest. "Endgame doesn't deliever", "it has way too many bugs", "the PvP is annoying", list goes on.
The mainstay of *any* MMO is going to be the endgame, the thing the keeps you subscribed. Sadly, no one is going to tell you how it plays it. Things change at release. Things could be really promising in beta, but the certain strategies or playstyles start to surface after it's been released to the public and the dev has to back to the drawing board because of it.
So I'm going to keep an eye on Aion, just like I've kept an eye on every other MMO. I got a bit carried away with WAR due to it's setting and lore so I've learned a bit more from that. In a few months from now if the people here are still praising Aion as the next best thing to graze our sun then sure, I'll give it a shot. Until then I'll be waiting a long time after it's release here; I don't want to feel like I wasted leveling a character in a broken MMO.

You know that Aion has already been released, right?
In fact, it has been almost 8 months since Aion was released in South Korea. And 3 months in China.
Japan today, July 17 in their timezone.
Also, what killed WAR was lack of updates and balances, something that Aion took care of.
